Visited Munsiyari (and a few other places) this week. D.C. Tiwari is brilliant. Drove very peacefully, and he's highly informative. Highly recommended.

Also, at Munsiyari, a certain Mr. Jagatram was our guide for the Khaliatop trek and he accompanied us to Madhkote and Dharkote as well. He apparently also does glacier treks, skiing and rock climbing. He can surely be an additional option as a guide in the Munsiyari area. (Ph. 9456110008)

Hello Abhik,

Most of the hotels in these places, including kmvn, will be within your budget. nainital will be more expensive, so avoid that place. best to contact tiwari ji. he can help you choose the reasonable places.

Went on a trip to chaukori. Called DC tiwari - he promised he would come, but when we reached kathgodam he shocked us saying some other driver would take us. The other driver was inexperienced and lazy to say the least. Bad experience with Tiwari - would avoid him.

Thanks for posting the comments Prashant.

The weather is nice, rains once in a while. Cloudy so cant see the peaks very well. The road to munsiyari from chaukori was not accessible due to landslide.

Hi Prashant,

Your blog is indeed helpful. Am visiting India for a work trip and am planning for a trip to Chopta-Chadrashila from the 2nd week of Dec for 5 days.

Do you think it's a good idea to go around this time?

As it is my 1st time to India, so from my work trip in Mumbai and fly to Delhi, how should I travel from Delhi airport to meet the driver/guide (Jagdish guy right?) ?

Thanks and cheers
Chin

This blog post very informative. My wife and I went on the Roopkund trek in the second half of October, and many thanks to Major Patwalji who made the arrangements for us.
I would highly recommend the guide who came along with us, Bhuwan Singh Bisht. He is the headman of Kuling village and one of the few guides in the area who has undergone mountaineering training at NIM. He can be contacted at 8941876481
