good night panch chulis.

in the evening i went down to the market with ganga ram and trilochan singh.
i bought a shawl for myself. a woolen shawl.
the rates are - woolen shawls - 400 bucks
angora shawls - 1600 bucks
pashmina shawls - 4000 bucks

later on, ganga and trilochan singh had gifted me a woolen cap. it is pretty useful. right now i am finding it very warm, even in the winters in UK.

then we also had snacks in the bilju restaurant, run by the family from darma valley. in ganga ram's opinion, the lady in the restaurant dresses up extra brightly to attract the crowd over there. hence he named her a "chamiya" :-)

even in the olden days, when traders used to come from tibet, they used to stop in milam. in those days about 500 families lived in milam. so it wa sa very famous village and they had nachnewali (dancing girls) to entertain the traders from tibet.

all this might get started again. the passes across lipu lekh have been opened for trading. in a few years they might even open the milam pass. also, they r thinking of making a power station up ahead in the johar valley. this will lead to a construction of the road till half-way upto milam. this means that the inner trekking routes will be more open for trekking and that will be good for the guides.then there will be added benefits due to opening of the border with tibet. seems liek this place is headed for better times.

Hi,
Nice photographs, and you seem to love the mountains quite a bit !

Have you done the Nanda devi base camp yet ? If so, can't wait for those photographs as well..... if not, my wishes that you get an opportunity to get there soon !

Regards,
Ramesh
