This blog post is dedicated to all the vicitims of the terrible attacks in Mumbai - which happened around the time of this trek. Sachin Tendulkar had remarked that "Cricket is a lesser thing compared to what happened in Mumbai and we are with those who lost their dear ones. These centuries mean nothing but I hope it will bring the smile back on the faces of people in Mumbai."

Similarly, even trekking is an insignificant thing compared to those unfortunate events. However, we sincerely hope that these photos remind us of how beautiful our country and this world is, which God has so lovingly made for us. It is something worth fighting for and that we should strive to get rid of the evil that these terrorists represented - both from our country and from this world.

Bedni bugyal is located on the famous Roopkund trail, in the Chamoli district of the Garhwal region in Uttarakhand. It is around 3500 m high and is lush gren during the monsoons. I went after the rains and before the winter snow, so it was pretty dry. There are some very good links on the net on the full Roopkund trek, including the mammoth thread on Roopkund at IndiaMike. I have put in some contact details of people who can help arrange for this trek (Vinod, Dayal Singh, Mohan, Wan store) over here. The details of the first trek to Bedni more than two years ago with Kamal and Gittu is given on the home page. At that time, it was very lush green. However, due to the rains, there were not many views of the peaks. This time, the views were as clear as possible, but it was very dry and too early for a winter snowfall. I was a bit disappointed at not being able to make this trek in December end or Jan beginning, but still even this was enjoyable. If you can't make it to this place, then these pics are here for you to enjoy :-)

Hello Sir,

Really enjoyed all your pics in all your trips. What are your future plans? Which hike you are considering next? Anxiously waiting for your next set of pics.

I have a question in mind. Which wildlife have you encountered in all your trips? I have seen mountain eagle and bharal in your pics but i bet you have seen much more of them as you have passed through dense forests and etc.

Again, thank you for sharing the pics.
